At Serco, we are looking to recruit Day and Shift Technicians to join our Satellite Communications Teams at TCS Oakhanger in Bordon, working on behalf of the US Space Force.

The TCS contract falls under Serco’s Space and Security division. The Technician role involves configuring for real-time support and operating various satellite ground and communication systems. Responsibilities include routine maintenance, system checks, tests, troubleshooting, and rectification. Day Technicians work Monday-Friday, while Shift Technicians follow a rotational shift pattern.

The role suits individuals with experience in technical roles involving testing and problem resolution across Electronics, Electrical, IT, Mechanical, and RF disciplines. Full training, mentorship, and support are provided for motivated candidates eager to learn and become integral team members.

Main responsibilities of the role include:
  1. Reporting to the Technical Delivery Manager or Operations Manager
  2. Complying with Serco’s Management Systems and USSF policies/procedures
  3. Configuring and ensuring error-free real-time operation of satellite ground and communication systems, performing routine maintenance, system checks, tests, and troubleshooting
  4. Acting as a senior person in operational areas when fully certified, reporting events to the Operations Manager
  5. Engaging in technical discussions with US operations management and Serco management teams
  6. Shift Technicians will work 12-hour shifts after initial training and certification
  7. Day Technicians, once trained and certified, will participate in a weekly call-out rota for 24/7 operations
  8. Conducting Document Reviews, Risk Assessments, and Inspections
  9. Opportunities for overtime/TOIL after certification
  10. Assisting with training new hires
Qualifications needed for the role:
  • Ability to achieve and maintain Security Clearance
  • GCSE Grade C in Maths and English
  • Electronic Engineering BTEC Level 3 diploma (with access to further learning)
  • Willingness to complete CompTIA Security+ certification (training provided)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
  • Willing to become Crypto Authorized and Rescue Climber (training provided)
