Here at Serco, we support the development of RAF’s next generation of aircrew, engineers, and air traffic controllers through our unique contract with the Air Cadet organisation. At RAF Syerston, Serco is contracted with maintaining and managing their fleet of gliders.

We have several exciting opportunities at RAF Syerston for individuals interested in joining us in Logistics, Aircraft Maintenance, and Supervisory roles. If you are interested in future opportunities, please submit your CV, and we will keep you informed of vacancies as they arise.

This role provides Logistics Support to the aviation engineering environment, ensuring aircraft are maintained in an airworthy condition according to regulations, and overseeing the certification and release of aircraft to the customer. Main responsibilities include:

  • Supporting engineering teams in maintenance on Viking and other contract-related aircraft.
  • Receiving, issuing, controlling, and accounting for all equipment within Stores and the engineering environment, including working with receipt, dispatch, and handling dangerous goods per MOD instructions.
  • Stocktaking and auditing of accounts and inventories.
  • Acting as the Issue Centre for tools and consumables within the engineering environment.

Qualifications and skills needed:

  • Understanding of current COSHH regulations.
  • Understanding of ADR regulations; previous Dangerous Goods ADR qualification is preferred.
  • Computer literacy with experience of MJDI.

This role involves Support Staff responsibilities with Supervisory duties, in accordance with Military Aviation Authority regulations. We seek individuals capable of leading and supervising engineering personnel on Viking and other aircraft at RAF Syerston and across the UK.

The team comprises both military and civilian members. To qualify, candidates should meet one or more of the following:

  • Experience and completion of MOD Phase 2 technical training.
  • Possession of an appropriate EASA Category A, B1, B2, or C license.
  • Relevant civilian training (for civilian contractors).

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience in civilian industry or armed forces in a relevant trade, demonstrating ability to hold Support Staff with Supervisory Responsibilities or equivalent.

Based at RAF’s Central Gliding School, you'll lead and manage teams performing maintenance on Glider aircraft nationwide. You will also carry out Certifying Staff duties per MAA regulations.

Additional requirements include:

  • Experience and qualification in MOD Phase 2 technical training or civilian equivalent.
  • Authority or potential to sign for independent inspection or duplicate inspections.
  • Knowledge of aircraft maintenance documentation and publications.
