Job summary

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust seeks an Ophthalmic Imaging Technician to join our busy eye clinic. You will perform patient histories, vision testing, and imaging assessments across retina, cornea, and anterior segment using state‑of‑the‑art equipment.

Working with Medical Illustration and the wider team, you will deliver high‑quality imaging with fundus cameras, OCT, and slit‑lamp systems, guiding patients through their diagnostic care.

Qualifications

• Qualified to ONC level (or equivalent).
• GCSE passes including English and Maths.
• Proven experience in ophthalmic imaging.
• Proficient in fundus cameras, OCT, and slit-lamp imaging systems.
• Excellent communication skills with patients.

Job Summary

The main focus of this role is to provide ophthalmic diagnostic clinics for patients with a variety of ophthalmic conditions. These clinics aim to streamline the patient pathway, providing quicker, more efficient review for patients and this role is a key part of this transformation in service provision. Working independently, you will take a patient history, conduct vision and IOP testing and undertake the required imaging modalities as per protocol. You will be the key point of contact for patients, assisting them through the diagnostic care process, ensuring that they are informed and comfortable with their care plan and follow-up steps.

In addition, working alongside colleagues from Medical Illustration, including Medical Photographers and other Ophthalmic Imaging Technicians, and the wider eye clinic team, you will perform high-resolution imaging of the retina, cornea, anterior segment, and other parts of the eye using specialized ophthalmic imaging equipment for those patients who are attending for face-to-face review. This is a fast-paced environment in which the team works flexibly and adaptably to provide comprehensive, high quality imaging services to a range of clinicians and specialties.

Key Requirements

• Qualified to at least ONC level (or equivalent experience).
• GCSE passes including English and Maths.
• Proven experience in ophthalmic imaging, with a solid understanding of retinal and anterior segment photography techniques.
• Proficient in using ophthalmic imaging equipment, such as fundus cameras, OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), and slit-lamp imaging systems.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain procedures to patients clearly and empathetically.
• Knowledge of relevant health and safety guidelines and infection control practices.
