Overview

Ophthalmic Electromechanical Field Service Engineer | Field-Based - North West / West Midlands

We are recruiting for a Field Service Engineer with a background in electromechanical systems, ideally within ophthalmic or medical devices, to join a specialist technical services team. This is a field-based role covering customers across the Northwest and West Midlands, ideally based within 10 miles of Stoke or Crewe. Occasional national and European travel may be required.

You will be responsible for the installation, servicing, upgrades, and repairs of high-end ophthalmic equipment, with potential to cross-train into other sectors such as robotics, healthcare, and digital technologies. The role involves working both independently and as part of a team, providing professional and responsive service to customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, service, repair, decommission, and upgrade ophthalmic equipment at customer sites
  • Provide professional, responsive, and proactive technical support
  • Liaise effectively with team leaders, managers, and clients to ensure satisfaction
  • Maintain accurate reports, system updates, and stock control
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and WEEE procedures
  • Attend training to support development across other product sectors
  • Be flexible to travel within the UK and occasionally abroad
Skills & Experience
  • Experience with ophthalmic or other medical devices strongly preferred
  • Previous field service experience essential
  • Strong electromechanical or electrical/electronic engineering background
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Organised, punctual, and professional with a clean driving licence
  • Comfortable with occasional early starts, late finishes, and travel

Preferred Qualifications: City & Guilds / ONC / HNC in Engineering

Other: Must hold or be able to obtain a valid passport
