A leading company in the energy sector is seeking an Operator (Overhead Lines) to assist with the construction and maintenance of overhead lines. The role requires physical work, teamwork, and flexibility in hours. Ideal candidates should have GCSEs in English and Maths, a driving licence, and the ability to work at heights. Training will be provided, and interviews are scheduled for June 2025.

Job description

An opportunity is available for an Operator (Overhead Lines) based at Brecon. As an Operator, you will assist a Craftsperson with construction, maintenance, replacement, and repair of overhead lines up to and including 66kV/33kV. You should ideally have some experience in the electrical field, although all necessary training will be provided.

The work involves being away from the depot, usually working in a team of two people. The environment requires quick, decisive, and responsible actions to meet the demands of the role. You will also be responsible for ensuring the van contains all essential tools and equipment, working safely, and assisting with any labour required on site. Flexibility in working hours and a valid driving licence are essential.

Minimum Requirements
  1. English & Maths GCSE (1-9/G-A*) or equivalent qualifications such as Functional Skills.
  2. Evidence of qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
  3. Ability and enthusiasm to work in a physical environment and take quick, responsible actions.
  4. Driving licence.
  5. Capacity to work at heights and use Personal Fall Protection Equipment, considering weight restrictions.
Responsibilities
  • Work at heights on all types of overhead lines.
  • Undertake deadwork on LV, HV, and EHV systems under supervision.
  • Operate mechanical equipment.
  • Inspect poles and overhead equipment, rectify minor defects.
  • Trim and fell trees.
  • Excavate, lay cable, and backfill.
  • Excavate pole and stay holes.
  • Deliver planned shutdown notices and make appointments.
  • Resolve customer complaints where possible.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Flexible approach to work and team objectives.
  • Experience in the electrical field preferred but not essential.
  • Mobility across the area for standby duties.
  • Valid driving licence.

Interviews are scheduled for Wednesday, 11 June 2025. This role is subject to a satisfactory DBS check and other vetting procedures.
