Responsibilities include preparing the machine, assessing work requirements, and ensuring the plan is executed to meet specifications while maintaining health, safety, and environmental safeguards. Work according to VMI and operational manual guidelines. Act as COSS (Charge of Site Safety).

Person Specification

• Recognised formal apprenticeship in Mechanical/Electrical engineering (or working towards it)
• Achieved core competencies of Foundation Course, Machine Setup, and Pack away for Operation Grinding Railgrinding maintainer as per Operations/Maintenance competence matrix
• Driving Licence
• PTS certification
• Fire Training
• Emergency First Aid certification
• Depot/Yard Inductions
• Basic Laser Safety
• COSS certification

Key Responsibilities

• Operate or maintain the machine safely and effectively under supervision
• Perform 2nd man / fire watch duties during grinding operations
• Report machine defects to the supervisor
• Collect and collate machine data output where applicable
• Work safely following Colas Rail Services Operations procedures
• Assist as required in related tasks
• Maintain quality systems, safety packs, and stabling database with ongoing reviews and updates
• Perform additional duties if deemed competent
• Review Safe Work Packs (SWPs)
• Carry out COSS duties as needed
• Perform daily maintenance tasks such as chipping and blowing
