Track Maintenance: Responsible for maintaining, inspecting, and repairing the track network (also known as the Permanent Way or P-Way) to ensure safety and efficiency. This involves working with rails, sleepers, ballast, drainage, and ancillary structures.

Our operatives work outdoors in all conditions, at all times of the year, day or night. The role involves manual labor, transporting equipment across challenging terrain. Being safety-conscious, rule-respecting, and a team player is essential, especially when working near moving trains at high speed.

We value transferable skills such as:

  • Teamworking: Collaborate closely with colleagues to deliver safe, efficient work.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication.
  • Proactive planning: Be punctual, prepared, and anticipate team needs.
  • Working under pressure: Remain calm outdoors in all conditions, near moving trains.
  • Following rules and instructions: Respect safety rules and challenge unsafe situations.
  • Willingness to learn: Continuously develop relevant skills and stay updated on standards and procedures.
Additional information:

- Shifts include days, nights, and weekends.

- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.

- Employment is subject to drug, alcohol testing, medical, and BPSS checks, including hearing and eyesight exams.

- A valid driving license (category B) is required to operate Network Rail vehicles.

- Candidates should reside within a 60-minute commute of the location.

Your commitment to us:

We support your self-development with comprehensive training, enabling a transition into a rewarding rail career. Opportunities for advancement include becoming a technician or team leader, with a clear career path.

Benefits include:
  • Privileged staff travel with a 75% discount, including family members.
  • Up to 75% subsidy on rail and underground season tickets.
  • Healthcare benefits, cycle-to-work scheme, childcare, and shopping discounts.
  • Work-life balance with a 35-hour week, flexible and hybrid working, and family support.
  • Paid volunteering leave, reserve leave for Armed Forces members, and recognition schemes in Wales and Western regions.
