As an operative, you'll work outdoors in a small team, supporting essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users.

Operatives can specialize in various disciplines, but for this role, you'll become a specialist in:
Track Maintenance: Responsible for maintaining, inspecting, and repairing the track network (also known as the Permanent Way or P-Way) to ensure safety and efficiency. This involves working with rails, sleepers, ballast, drainage, and ancillary structures.
Our operatives work outdoors in all conditions, at all times of the year, day or night. The role involves manual labor, transporting equipment across challenging terrain. Being safety-conscious, rule-respecting, and a team player is essential, especially when working near moving trains at high speed.
You are crucial to the team. You show up early, leave last, check and prepare the van and equipment, and drive the team between sites. Daily, you'll support equipment maintenance and perform lookout duties to ensure team safety.

- Shifts include days, nights, and weekends.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Employment is subject to drug, alcohol testing, medical, and BPSS checks, including hearing and eyesight exams.
- A valid driving license (category B) is required to operate Network Rail vehicles.
- Candidates should reside within a 60-minute commute of the location.
