Job summary

Orion Group is recruiting an Operative Buyer for a manufacturer of mobile crushing and screening equipment. The role focuses on using MRP and scheduling to ensure materials arrive when needed, raising purchase orders, and maintaining procurement data to support production.

You will monitor supplier performance, identify supply risks, and expedit e deliveries to minimise production disruption while working closely with sourcing, finance and logistics teams.

Qualifications

• Experience in a buyer role within manufacturing.
• Practical experience using an MRP system.
• Experience monitoring supplier performance and addressing supply risks.
• Strong planning, organisation and time management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above; CIPS Level 3 certificate would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Raising and managing purchase orders in line with production demand.
• Monitoring material availability, identifying supply risks and resolving shortages.
• Expediting deliveries to minimise disruption to production.
• Managing a portfolio of suppliers and monitoring performance against KPIs.
• Working with suppliers to improve delivery, quality and commercial performance.
• Coordinating purchasing requirements for design changes, special components and one-off parts.
• Maintaining accurate procurement data and working closely with sourcing, finance and logistics teams.
• Supporting sourcing activities and procurement projects to reduce costs and improve value.
• Following company purchasing policies and environmental, health and safety procedures.

This opportunity would suit someone with purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment who enjoys managing suppliers, resolving supply challenges and working closely with production teams.

The role

You will use Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and scheduling to ensure materials and components arrive when needed. You’ll identify potential shortages, take action before they affect production, and secure value from suppliers while supporting inventory and working capital targets.

• GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above, or equivalent.A CIPS Level 3 Certificate in Procurement and Supply Operations, or equivalent experience, would be advantageous.
