Job Description

We’re looking for a proactive and organised professional to lead operations training and support Health & Safety initiatives within our Blackburn manufacturing facility. If you have a keen eye for safety, a passion for training and strong leadership skills, this is an excellent opportunity to make an impact!

Key Responsibilities:

As Operations Trainer and Health & Safety Coordinator, you will play a key role in ensuring operational excellence and workplace safety. You will oversee and administer the training of all new and existing personnel across the Production, Extrusion, Conversion, Knitting and Warehouse departments, working closely with Production Supervisors to ensure a well-trained, engaged and effective workforce. This will include preparing and conducting induction training for new starters as part of the Employee Orientation Program (EOP), creating and delivering training on process machinery, and overseeing FLT and Overhead Crane (OHC) training, ensuring all training records remain up to date.

Beyond training, you will act as a competent person on shift, setting the pace and leading by example to support operational teams. You will assist Shift Supervisors in developing team confidence and technical competence, fostering a culture of professional and constructive communication. You will also take an active role in the coordination of safety procedures, ensuring compliance with best practices, evaluating operator performance, and arranging refresher training where necessary.

On the Health & Safety side, you will contribute to risk assessments, investigations and proactive safety measures (PSMs), helping to identify and mitigate potential hazards in collaboration with the Production Supervision team. You will assist in the completion of remedial actions and play a key part in maintaining safety reporting systems. Additionally, you will work closely with the Health & Safety Manager to drive a continuous improvement culture in safety and operational processes.

Your role will also involve supporting the commissioning of new equipment, working alongside Process and Technical teams to develop appropriate working procedures and training programmes for operators where necessary.

By combining training expertise, leadership, and a strong focus on Health & Safety, you will drive a culture of continuous improvement to ensure that operational teams are not only skilled and efficient, but are also working in a safe and well-managed environment.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Experience in operational training and/or Health & Safety coordination in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety processes, including risk assessments and incident reporting.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to support and develop team members.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Health & Safety qualification (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely).
  • Hands-on experience with production machinery and warehouse operations is an advantage.

What We Offer:

  • A dynamic, fast-paced working environment where you can make a real impact
  • The opportunity to work with a collaborative and forward-thinking team
  • Career development and progression opportunities

Additional Benefits:

  • 33 Days Annual Leave (Pro-rated) - inclusive of public holidays

  • Pension contributions matched up to 6%
  • Professional subscription contribution
  • Enhanced sick pay scheme
