Job Description:

SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES (RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS, ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

  1. Daily animal care activities including feeding, observing animals for clinical concerns, and nail trimming.
  2. Husbandry activities such as cage cleaning, sanitization, and support tasks.
  3. Potentially perform rabbit milking and support activities to meet production goals.
  4. Proper restraint of rabbits for care, transfers, and sample collection.
  5. Technical skills including IP injections, and possibly IM, IV, and SC injections.
  6. Animal identification procedures like ear tags, tattoos, and RFID transponders.
  7. Support for breeding procedures, including insemination and kindling/weaning.
  8. Accurate documentation using computer and paper systems to ensure compliance.
  9. Provide veterinary care and treatments as needed, depending on skill level.
  10. Identify safety issues and initiate corrective actions.
  11. Report animal welfare concerns.
  12. Understand and follow animal care guidelines.
  13. Weekend and holiday coverage on a rotating basis.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; 0-3 years laboratory animal experience; AS in related discipline preferred; BS in related discipline with no experience required.
  • AALAS certification at the ALAT level preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to documentation practices.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, internet).
  • Ability to push/pull carts up to 500 pounds and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods.
  • May be exposed to allergenic materials and chemicals.
  • Repetitive motion tasks involving hands and wrists.
