Joining Sainsbury’s as a Project Operations Manager in Logistics offers the opportunity to lead change and transformation programmes within a dynamic environment. You will drive cost-saving initiatives, implement process improvements, and foster a culture of innovation and efficiency while engaging with senior stakeholders and supporting professional development.

This role is field based and will require some travel across our UK logistics network.

What you’ll do

You will be accountable for the successful delivery of change and transformation programmes across our Logistics network. You will work with Logistics, Transformation, and the wider business to agree business and continuous improvement plans. Responsibilities include programme planning, process improvement, cost management, change management, and applying industry thinking to drive efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality within logistics operations.

You will provide training and support to Logistics teams, attend forums related to food programmes, and ensure governance by producing status reports and updates for Steering and Working Groups. Your expertise in end-to-end warehouse operations, strategic change implementation, risk management, and effective communication will underpin programme success.

Who you are

You have a proven track record in driving strategic change and delivering operational excellence within complex logistics operations. You bring expertise in programme management, process improvement, and cost-saving initiatives, enabling you to lead transformation programmes that align operational imperatives with business goals. You communicate effectively, manage stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement to achieve efficiency gains and cost savings. You demonstrate critical thinking, risk management, and a readiness to challenge the status quo to deliver successful change across the logistics function.

  • Expert in the end-to-end process of the Warehouse operation in Logistics and understand your part in driving its success.
  • Detailed understanding of relevant legislation, policy and process in all matters relating to your working location, including Health & Safety, Trade Union legislation and Employment Law (e.g. working time directive for Warehouse colleagues).
  • Proven experience in rolling out strategic change in a complex organisation.
  • Effective written and spoken communicator at all levels, with the ability to manage senior stakeholders and present at leadership forums.
  • Excellent coaching skills focused on improving individual and collective performance.
  • A solid understanding of risk management and its application to programmes.
  • A working knowledge of MS Project or equivalent.
