Job Title: Operations Manager
Lead delivery of the Business Plan and Strategy that supports Carnell's objectives to improve market penetration in the South, including:
- Identify and secure a forward works programme with new clients
- Grow the business with new clients
- Improve profitability
You will work collaboratively with clients, supporting their needs, and will have access to Carnell Asset Management Tools, Subject Matter Experts, and specialist supply chain. You will provide a monthly report to the Operations Director outlining current workload, issues, client needs, and potential work-winning opportunities.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Client Relationships
- Ensure all works are carried out to contract specifications
- Maintain good relationships with clients
- Ensure a steady flow of work to maintain site resource levels
- Ensure contract compliance with SHEQ documentation
Resource Management
- Ensure sufficient resources for all contracts
- Use company plant and vehicles efficiently
- Monitor and authorize working hours exceedances
- Assist with issuing and receiving contract-related paperwork
- Liaise with SHEQ department on training requirements
- Manage and operate a Carnell Scotland office
People
- Oversee performance and development of Contract Managers, Supervisors, and Foremen
- Organize pre-start briefings and toolbox talks, and complete related paperwork
- Coordinate employee training in required skills
- Conduct annual appraisals for managers and supervisors
Qualifications/Experience
- Experience in contracts management within construction
- Understanding of highways drainage and specifications (CS 551, CD 535, ADMM, MCHW, DMRB)
- Knowledge of health & safety legislation
- Understanding of business strategy
- UK Driving License

Education and Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent (HND/HNC) in construction or project management
