Job Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for the delivery of the financial and operational performance of the garage in line with the performance objectives required by the Company.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for assisting with the preparation of the financial budget for the garage and once agreed, ensuring that objectives and targets are achieved in the areas for which the jobholder has specific responsibility;
  2. Ensures that the performance of the garage and their areas of responsibility meet or exceed the standards laid down by the Company and TfL;
  3. Manages and controls the activities of operational and administrative staff to ensure performance against targets and minimize underperformance;
  4. Ensures that driving staff attend work as required and carry out duties diligently, in line with company policies and legislation, through regular monitoring and appropriate disciplinary actions;
  5. Ensures timely and efficient administration of the garage to support operations and provide necessary information to the Garage Manager and head office;
  6. Inspires and motivates staff, encouraging teamwork to enable them to reach their full potential;
  7. Uses various communication techniques to improve staff performance;
  8. Through coaching, counseling, and the Company Performance Management system, ensures staff development and training to realize potential;
  9. Promotes a harmonious working relationship between union, staff, and management, and properly applies disciplinary policies, including hearings for disciplinary and grievances;
  10. Maintains health and safety standards within their area, reporting issues affecting safety to the Garage Manager or safety standards manager;
  11. Performs ad hoc tasks, projects, and additional duties as required;
  12. Ensures legal and contractual compliance with prevailing legislation and policies;
  13. Deploys resources efficiently within the garage to achieve maximum performance, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
Essential Criteria
  • Experience as a supervisor or team leader supporting staff management and service delivery;
  • Experience in investigations, grievances, and disciplinary procedures;
  • Experience in managing performance and setting targets;
  • Experience managing short-term and long-term absence;
  • Experience in budget management;
  • Experience working in a unionized environment;

Management CPC qualification (working towards or willing to complete).
