Role Summary

The Operations Manager (Mech Arb & Forestry) ensures efficient, safe, and profitable delivery across Heartwood’s forestry and mechanised arboriculture services. This role combines strategic leadership, operational oversight, and hands-on project delivery to drive consistent improvement across nationwide teams.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee planning, coordination, and delivery of all field operations (forestry, mechanised arb, biomass).
Ensure all works align with Health & Safety policies and company safety standards .
Monitor job profitability: managing budgets, pricing, cost control, and project forecasting.
Maintain and streamline operational KPIs, including on-time delivery, resource utilisation, cost efficiency, and client satisfaction.
Lead and develop Field Managers; assess performance, train teams, and foster professional growth.
Collaborate with Sales & Commercial teams to ensure smooth bid-to-delivery handoffs and operational feasibility.
Coordinate equipment scheduling and maintenance alongside Fleet Manager, optimising mechanised asset availability .
Drive continuous improvement by analysing processes, integrating innovations, and executing scalable best practices.
Support senior management planning: capacity forecasting, budget planning, and strategy development.
Represent Heartwood externally at client meetings, site inspections, and industry events.
3+ years’ leadership experience in arboriculture or forestry operations (e.g. Operations Manager, Forestry Works Manager)
Proven track record in multi-site project/operations management within tree, forestry, or vegetation sectors.
Solid financial acumen: budgeting, commercial analysis, cost control, and margin management.
Strong knowledge of H&S and industry standards (LOLER, PUWER, Arboricultural Association, etc.).
Demonstrable leadership skills: team building, conflict resolution, and performance coaching.
Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
Effective communication and stakeholder management across all levels.
Must hold a full UK driving license; willing to travel frequently.
DBS check clearance (required for public-sector and critical infrastructure contracts).
