Job description

Your new company is a specialist ground works and civil engineering contractor that operates as a main contractor across the South East to refurbish, upgrade and re-instate elements of infrastructure as part of local authority frameworks as well as ground works, substructure and foundation works on Tier One jobs and private customers. They self-deliver civil engineering services with plant and labour as well as subcontractors on a variety of project schemes. Their schemes vary in size from remedial works of local assets valuing circa £5-10k up to Tier One Contracts with a value of £3-5 million.

Your new role would be to ensure that the internal and external resources are planned and deployed in the most effective fashion regarding plant, labour, equipment, and management staff. The output would be to fulfil the demands of the multiple projects currently contracted and as a look ahead to the future. Reporting to the board of directors, you will learn the workings of all the departments, types of schemes, technical elements of the products, construction activities and nurture customer relationships. In practical terms, you would need to attend site visits, manage labour allocations of up to 15 gangs and be able to manage and report this process electronically (using MS Office). Duties and responsibilities would be to attend and chair meetings to check the right resources, dealing with subcontractors and labour suppliers, track plant and costs, liaising with haulage and transport managers. The efficient use of resources would result in cost savings and high customer service levels via interactions with QS, CM, and the Client.

What you'll need to succeed is previous experience in a similar role in the UK as a Civil Engineering Company, Main Building Contractor, Infrastructure Contractor, or Consulting Engineer. They will be energetic and be erudite enough to communicate with directors and tradespeople and subcontractors both in person and over the phone / video meetings. They will display attributes of front-end analysis with foresight to manage future issues. The successful candidate will live in Sussex/Surrey, have the right to work in the UK, be educated to HNC / B.Sc. level and have an elevated knowledge of project management and programme management. This is a permanent PAYE vacancy, so we are looking for a candidate with a stable work history rather than a self-employed CIS subcontractor. There is no relocation allowance.

What you'll get in return is a permanent offer of employment of £60,000 plus benefits. This is an office-based position with site visits on a regular basis. The benefits package includes a mobile phone, laptop, holidays, company pension and potential promotion to a Contracts Director level role.
