Job summary

Rother House Medical Centre is seeking an experienced Senior Operations Manager to lead day-to-day operations, quality and governance, and service development across the practice. You will oversee CQC compliance, digital transformation projects, EMIS Web optimisation, patient communications and engagement, and work with the Senior Management Team to improve patient access and performance.

The role requires degree-level education, strong leadership, and a proven track record in regulated

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Significant operational management experience within primary care, healthcare, or a similar regulated environment.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience of project management and service improvement.
  • Knowledge of CQC standards, governance and quality assurance.
  • Experience using clinical systems, preferably EMIS Web.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands and work under pressure.

Key Responsibilities


  • Operational Management Support the day-to-day operational management of the practice.

  • Develop and implement systems and processes that improve efficiency and patient experience.

  • Monitor operational performance and recommend improvements where required.

  • Support business continuity and risk management planning.

  • Quality and Compliance Lead the practice's CQC compliance programme, ensuring continuous readiness for inspection.

  • Develop, coordinate and monitor clinical and non-clinical audits.

  • Maintain policies, procedures and governance documentation.

  • Support the management of significant events, complaints, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Digital and Information Systems Lead digital transformation projects across the practice.

  • Optimise the use of EMIS Web and other clinical systems to improve patient care and operational efficiency.

  • Work with external providers to implement new technologies and digital solutions.

  • Ensure compliance with information governance and data protection requirements.

  • Service Development Identify opportunities to improve services and patient access.

  • Support the implementation of new NHS initiatives and contractual requirements.

  • Lead projects that improve operational performance and patient outcomes.

  • Research Coordinate the practice's participation in research studies.

  • Liaise with research networks and external organisations.

  • Ensure studies are delivered in accordance with governance requirements.

  • Communications and Engagement Manage the practice website and digital communications.

  • Oversee patient communications, social media, and marketing activities.

  • Support patient engagement initiatives and promote practice services.

  • Leadership Work collaboratively with the Practice Manager and Assistant Practice Manager as part of the Senior Management Team.

  • Provide leadership and support to staff involved in operational projects.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and accountability.

  • Deputise for the Practice Manager where appropriate.

  • Financial and Performance Support Assist with monitoring contracts, enhanced services and operational performance.

  • Support the preparation of reports for Partners and the Senior Management Team.

  • Use data and performance metrics to inform decision-making and service improvements.


Person Specification


  • Essential Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.

  • Significant operational management experience within primary care, healthcare, or a similar regulated environment.

  • Excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills.

  • Experience of project management and service improvement.

  • Knowledge of CQC standards, governance and quality assurance.

  • Experience using clinical systems, preferably EMIS Web.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Desirable Management qualification or equivalent.

  • Experience of NHS contracts and primary care performance frameworks.

  • Knowledge of research governance.

  • Experience in digital transformation and change management.

  • Experience managing websites, communications or social media.
