Serco have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to join the team based at HM Naval base in Portsmouth. This role will lead the Serco Maritime Services Portsmouth (SMSP) operations and support the delivery of the wider in-port contract, reporting to the Head of Service Delivery Area (HoSDA). The role will be accountable for the operation of approx. 30 maritime assets and associated infrastructure and the management of approximately 100 Serco personnel over the Portsmouth site.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operational performance of CPMS in a secure and ethical environment that complies with both Corporate and social responsibility.
  • Direction and leadership of the Portsmouth Operations Cell in delivering Customer requirements in accordance with the MoD Schedule of Requirements.
  • Leadership and management of approx. 100 Serco personnel.
  • Championing of cultural change.
  • Operational integration of new tonnage.
  • Key role in managing stakeholder relationships at HM Naval Base Portsmouth, including Royal Navy/MoD Customers and commercial organisations.
What you’ll need to do the role:
  • Able to achieve SC clearance.
  • Previous operational management experience in a maritime environment.
  • Experience and a good understanding of governance within a regulatory environment.
  • Evidence of relevant and up to date continuous personal development.
  • Experience and proven track record in employee and Trade Union relations.
  • Proven experience of running a single site operation and operating across public and private sector organisations and managing a team.
  • Experience of developing and executing successful plans in a complex service business to support strategy.
  • Leadership of specialist teams, effectively communicating direction, developing talent and capabilities.
  • Strong track record of supporting growth and financial performance in complex and demanding environments.
  • Proven practical and pragmatic understanding of contracts and service delivery.
  • Excellent analytical skills with an ability to assimilate information quickly and communicate key messages simply and effectively to the business.
  • An effective communicator, with the confidence and ability to deliver formal reports and presentations both to clients and internal senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate an ability to operate effectively within a matrix structure.
