Job Description:

The Position

The Operations Engineer will manage engineering and related projects across a broad range of cross-portfolio projects. The role may involve Wind, Solar & Storage projects, assisting Asset Managers and Site Managers in managing the RES UK & I portfolio, ensuring adherence to best practices for safety, health, quality, and environmental performance throughout the project lifecycle. The role will support the Asset Management Team with planning, managing, and monitoring major component exchange works within the portfolio, as well as implementing new services developed by the team.

Organisational Context

The Operations Engineer will report to the Civil Engineering Maintenance Manager, joining a team of Operations Engineers with broad experience across Wind, Solar, and Battery Storage. They will play an influential role in leading, developing, and ensuring the performance of Additional Services provided to customers, outside of Asset Management agreements. The engineer will work across disciplines, understanding procurement, contracts, technical, and site requirements for each project. The role involves regular travel to operational sites across the UK & Ireland, with potential opportunities to support projects in other regions or countries.

Accountabilities

• Help ensure high HSQE standards across the portfolio.
• Act as Project Manager on Additional Services projects by:
• Identifying opportunities within the Asset Management portfolio.
• Developing and executing Additional Services activities from owner approval to completion on Wind, Solar & Storage Assets.
• Ensuring compliance and deliverables are met, including supervision of works and monitoring of contractors.
• Act as Project Manager for the Asset Management team by:
• Planning, managing, and monitoring works on site.
• Leading as Point of Contact for roles such as Principal Designer, Principal Contractor, Project Supervisor Design Phase, and Project Supervisor Construction Stage.
• Developing risk, compliance, and performance processes supporting growth and cost reduction.
• Supporting other teams within UK Asset Management including Advisory, ESG, Contracts & Quality.
• Support the Operations Support Team by:
• Leading in areas of personal expertise.
• Participating in Continuous Improvement, Innovation, and Standardisation activities to develop RES services.

Knowledge

• Knowledge of renewable technology projects (Wind, Solar & Storage) in design, construction, or operations.
• Health and safety management systems.
• UK & Ireland HSQE legislation and regulations, including CDM Regulations and the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations.
• Roles and responsibilities of CDM duty holder roles.
• Lifting Operations and LOLER regulations.
• Quality and environmental management systems.
• Project financial management.

Experience

• Experience in Projects and/or Asset Management in an engineering environment, preferably renewables.
• At least 1 year of experience in Grid Scale Wind, Solar, and/or Storage projects.
• On-site work management experience in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical disciplines.
• Experience with Principal Contractor and/or Project Supervisor Construction Stage roles.
• Lifting Operations, Contract Management, interpretation of engineering drawings, managing budgets, and monitoring site activities.

Qualifications

• Degree/HND in Engineering or Science, or equivalent experience.
• Project Management qualification or equivalent experience.
• H&S certifications such as SSSTS, SMSTS, IOSH, or NEBOSH.
• Lifting Operations certification (e.g., CPCS Appointed Person).
• First Aid certification.
• CSCS, CSR, SOLAS Safe Pass.
• Full Driving Licence.
