Salary: £40,100 - £50,100 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
Contract type: Permanent
Location: This is an office-based role in the middle of Southampton, though may include a small amount of travelling in the area.
BBC Southampton is the home of regional TV news for central Southern England, the South regional production team of the BBC News website, and local radio station BBC Radio Solent, which serves audiences in Hampshire, Dorset, and the Isle of Wight.
The operation is based in the centre of Southampton and is well served by road, rail and bus services. We’re looking to appoint an Operations Engineer on a continuing contract as part of the technical support team.
As a member of the team, you will be working on shift with other engineers. Shifts currently run from 9.30am to 7.30pm, four days a week. You will be joining a small and multi-skilled engineering team working across a range of engineering duties and technologies, supporting broadcast TV, broadcast radio, and BBC news internet content. The role reports to the Operations Engineering Team Leader.
Engineers are expected to react to system failures in an appropriate manner and to be able to prioritise their response according to transmission and business criticality. Maintenance and repair is largely at a systems level, but repair of equipment down to component level is still sometimes necessary.
This job description is a written statement of the essential characteristics of the job, with its principal accountabilities, incorporating a note of the skills, knowledge and experience required for a satisfactory level of performance. This is not intended to be a complete, detailed account of all aspects of the duties involved.
Please note: If you were to be offered this role, the BBC will conduct Employment screening checks which include Reference checks; Eligibility to work checks; and if applicable to the role, Safeguarding and Adverse media/Social media checks. Any offer made is conditional on these checks being satisfactory.
The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants. Priority consideration means for those employees seeking redeployment their application will be considered alongside anyone else at risk of redundancy, prior to any individuals being considered who are not at risk.
