About The Role:

Our client, a mid-sized multidisciplinary design consultancy, is seeking a commercially minded and strategic Director of Operations to join them on a permanent basis at their office in central London.

In this role, you will work closely with the board of directors, acting as the main linchpin for the practice to ensure synchronicity across all departments. You will lead strategic, commercial, and operational initiatives, playing a key part in driving the company forward. Responsibilities include overseeing HR, finance, studio facilities, administration, and operations. This is a broad role where you can make a significant impact and be the ‘go-to’ person of the practice. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and operational management skills, preferably within the built environment, combined with architectural/project knowledge and a passion for making an impact in a creative setting.

Our client offers bonuses, hybrid/remote working options, and a focus on employee culture and well-being. This is a rare and rewarding opportunity to join a desirable London-based design practice!

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead business operations, including planning, practice management, finance, HR, IT, and commercial functions, to ensure seamless and efficient processes.
  2. Manage financial tasks such as cash flow monitoring, invoicing, bookkeeping, and fee negotiations for projects and tenders.
  3. Conduct operational reviews, identify improvement areas, and implement strategies to enhance efficiency.
  4. Keep partners informed on key performance indicators, including financial health and revenue progress, to support strategic decision-making.
  5. Collaborate with design teams to understand project workflows, providing insights without directly handling design tasks.
Key Skills/Requirements:
  1. Exceptional leadership with strong operational and financial acumen.
  2. Experience within a design or consultancy environment.
  3. Proven expertise in business strategies with a commercial mindset.
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build internal and external relationships.
  6. Outstanding organizational skills.
  7. Familiarity with managing design practices is preferred.
  8. Experience working on projects in the Middle East is advantageous.
