About Us
Based at Sky Studios Elstree, Universal Production Services is a fast-growing lighting and rigging equipment rental facility catering to the film and television production industries. We pride ourselves on delivering top-tier equipment, exceptional customer service, and operational excellence. As we continue to expand, we are seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Operations to oversee and optimise our operational processes.

Position Summary
The Director of Operations will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient management of daily operations, maintaining the highest standards of quality, and driving growth. This position requires a strong leader with experience in logistics, inventory management, team leadership, and strategic planning in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate will have a background in equipment rental services, production equipment, or a similar fast-paced industry and will be passionate about streamlining operations, improving workflows, and fostering a culture of excellence.
You will be responsible for the overall strategy and day-to-day operations for Set Lighting, Rigging, and Transportation teams. This includes managing a team of specialists, measuring performance through KPIs, and collaborating effectively across departments to ensure seamless production execution and high customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership

• Oversee daily operations, equipment rentals, maintenance, and returns across lighting and rigging departments.
• Develop strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
• Implement staffing processes based on business needs.
• Identify areas for operational improvement through metrics and process analysis.
• Report on financial and operational KPIs to support business units.
• Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and UK safety regulations, including regular risk assessments.
• Manage the transport fleet for efficient, cost-effective logistics, with direct reporting from the Transport Manager.

Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and develop operations staff, including warehouse, logistics, and admin personnel.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Handle hiring, training, performance reviews, and personnel issues.
• Promote professionalism and exceptional customer service within the team.

Inventory & Asset Management

• Maintain robust inventory systems for equipment tracking, usage, and maintenance.
• Monitor equipment utilization, identify expansion or divestment opportunities.
• Ensure safety and compliance with handling policies.
• Support procurement processes for lighting, rigging, and transportation assets.

Strategic Planning & Growth

• Align operational goals with overall business objectives through collaboration with senior leadership.
• Implement new technologies, systems, or processes to support growth.
• Analyze operational data and generate reports for decision-making.
• Establish and track KPIs to measure performance and meet targets.

Customer Focus

• Partner with customer service teams to ensure client satisfaction through timely equipment delivery.
• Resolve operational issues and customer complaints promptly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or related field.
• 7+ years experience in warehouse operations management, preferably in equipment rental or entertainment production.
• Strong leadership and team-building skills.
• Experience with inventory management and logistics software.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of film industry standards and safety regulations is a plus.
