Job summary

RSK Group's Archaeology and Historic Building division seeks an Operations Coordinator/Senior Operations Coordinator on a fixed-time 6-month contract. The role is hybrid home/office-based with flexible base in Romsey, Boxworth or Derby offices, focusing on deployment logistics, geomatics, post-excavation and archives.

The successful candidate will bring 5+ years in commercial archaeological fieldwork, ACIfA/CIfA accreditation, strong communication, DGPS surveying skills, and a full UK driving

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in commercial archaeological fieldwork
  • ACIfA accreditation or higher with CIfA
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Sound knowledge of DGPS surveying techniques
  • Experience preparing Health and Safety site documentation, WSIs and grey literature mitigation reports
  • Proven ability to supervise archaeological plant and activities
  • Full UK driving licence and relevant safety training accreditation

Responsibilities

  • Direct large-scale trial trench evaluations, strip, map and record to a high standard
  • Assist with geoarchaeological fieldwork under supervision
  • Prepare Written Schemes of Investigation and fieldwork reports and archives
  • Liaise with staff, subcontractors, contractors, curators and stakeholders on and off-site
  • Represent the organisation professionally and courteously at all times
  • Ensure health, safety and wellbeing policies are followed by the team
  • Produce risk assessments and site audits as required

Job description

Our Archaeology and Historic Building business comprises a highly skilled team focused on providing historic environment consultancy and fieldwork services throughout the planning process from pre-land acquisition to the discharge of planning conditions. As a result of our success in fieldwork services, we are seeking an Operations Coordinator/ Senior Operations Coordinator on a fixed-time (6 month contract) basis. We are looking for a fieldwork Operations Coordinator to assist with logistics focused on deployment, geomatics, post-excavation and archives. This is a hybrid home and office-based role and the location of the positions can be flexible, but it is expected that the successful candidates will be based out of either our Romsey, Boxworth or Derby offices. The successful candidates will join a team of professionals who work closely with colleagues in other disciplines, such as Ecology, Planning and Landscape. Immediate appointments will be available.

The positions would best suit ambitious and highly motivated individuals with strong communications and time management skills who are looking to advance their career in commercial archaeology and client relationship management.

Successful candidates will work flexibly on a wide variety of archaeological, geoarchaeological and environmental consultancy contracts in a fast moving, client focussed commercial environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Directing large scale trial trench evaluations, strip, map and record and detailed excavations to a high standard;
  • Assisting with geoarchaeological fieldwork under the supervision of our geoarchaeologist;
  • Producing Written Schemes of Investigations, archaeological fieldwork reports, publication reports and collated project archives for large-scale projects in accordance with relevant legislation, planning policy and CIfA standards and guidance;
  • To work closely and liaise effectively with ADAS staff and inter alia on-site subcontractors, Principal Contractors, Curators, other stakeholders and members of the public in a collaborative and supportive environment, on and off-site;
  • To represent ADAS Archaeology in a professional, diligent and courteous manner at all times;
  • To ensure that health, safety and wellbeing methodologies, documentation and policies are prepared, understood and followed by the archaeological team to ensure a safe working environment;
  • Producing Risk Assessments, Dynamic Risk Assessments and site audits as required; and
  • Ensuring that work is completed to the required legislative standard, delivered on time, meets project profit targets, is delivered to the Client’s satisfaction, and of a high archaeological standard.
Person Specification
Essential
  • Previous professional experience working in commercial archaeological fieldwork – 5 years +;
  • ACIfA accreditation or higher grade with CIfA;
  • Excellent communication and motivational skills and a positive attitude;
  • Proven high ability in archaeological recording techniques and accurate record keeping, including sound knowledge of DGPS surveying techniques;
  • Experience in preparation of Health and Safety site documentation, WSIs and grey literature mitigation reports;
  • Proven ability for archaeological supervision of plant;
  • Ability to carry out manual work in an outdoor environment in all weathers;
  • Full clean UK driving licence;
  • Safety accreditation (e.g. CAT and Genny Training, SSSTS, off-road driving, plant marshalling, asbestos awareness etc.);
  • Right to work in the UK; and
  • Degree level education or higher in a relevant subject.
Desirable
  • Experiencing presenting the results of archaeological investigations to both professional and lay audiences; and
  • Experience supporting community engagement and other outreach initiatives.

  • Up to £32,905 to £45,182 per annum depending on experience
