Job summary

A renewable energy company is seeking an Operations and Maintenance Technician based in Buckie. Responsibilities include supervising contractors, performing mechanical and electrical maintenance, and supporting offshore activities. Ideal candidates will have an apprenticeship in engineering and experience in an offshore O&M environment. This role offers a competitive salary with added benefits and a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off working pattern.

Job description

Operations and Maintenance Technician (BoP)

The Operations & Maintenance Technicians are responsible for supporting the implementation of the operations and maintenance strategy for Moray West Offshore Wind Farm. The Technicians will work closely with the Site O&M Manager, Operations & Maintenance Supervisors, and Maintenance Planner. They are responsible for on‑site performance of O&M activities related to civil and structural infrastructure (both onshore and offshore), Balance of Plant electrical equipment, Wind Turbine Generators, quayside facilities, and OFTO assets as required.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Supervision of contractors as required.
  • Support routine asset inspection activities.
  • Close out of snagging items.
  • Perform interim, preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance activities as defined.
  • Servicing, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic components.
  • Repair of paint and/or coating systems.
  • General cleaning of boat landings and substructures.
  • Prepare, pack and transport tools and equipment for maintenance activities.
  • Management and use of tools, test equipment and personal protective equipment.
  • Report and investigate defects and under‑performance promptly.
  • Support subcontractors in the execution of inspection and maintenance scopes.
  • Client oversight on all WTG main component and other major repair activities carried out by subcontractors for Ocean Winds.
  • Daily reporting on operational status using software systems.
  • Author and regularly update Method Statements and Risk Assessments for operational activities.
  • Use operations management systems and planning tools.
Required Academic Skills
  • Completed a full apprenticeship in mechanical, electrical or control instrumentation engineering; formal qualifications such as BTEC or HNC advantageous but not essential.
  • Evidence of extensive industry‑specific technical training.
  • All current offshore GWO certification (preferable).
  • IOSH Managing Safely (preferable).
Required Professional Experience
  • Experience in an O&M environment within offshore wind, oil and gas, marine or factory processing industries (preferably 3‑5 years).
  • Meet physical and medical requirements for offshore work, able to work at heights and in restricted or confined spaces.
  • Experienced in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical components.
  • Experience with installation and/or commissioning of offshore assets.
  • Management of statutory written schemes of examination (preferable).
  • Offshore or WTG experience at technician level within a Turbine OEM (preferable).
  • Experience with Electro‑Mechanical safety rules systems and WTG safety rules (preferably as an authorised person).
Required Knowledge
  • Good knowledge of electrical and mechanical maintenance.
  • Knowledge of LOLER and PUWER regulations.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (preferable).
  • Knowledge of Electro‑Mechanical or WTG safety rules advantageous.
Other Qualities
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Practical aptitude for maintenance activities.
  • Team player, calm problem solver, self‑motivated and able to work independently.
  • Technical reporting skills.
  • Organised and methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Preferably based or willing to be located close to Buckie (within 30 min drive).
Location and Working Pattern

The role will primarily be based at the O&M Centre in Buckie but will also require frequent travel to offshore assets via crew transfer vessel and service operation vessel. Working pattern is a rota system: 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off, 12 hours per day (weather permitting). O&M Technicians provide out‑of‑hours on‑call support and may work weekends as required.
