Job Description: Operations and Maintenance Engineer

Every time you pick up the phone, surf the Internet, travel on a motorway, catch a train, bus or tube, or even dial 999; chances are Telent has enabled the technology to make this happen. We are currently recruiting for an Operations & Maintenance Engineer to work on Highways England Contracts, carrying out maintenance and commissioning activities within your designated area. This includes the bottom of the M25, M2, M3, M27, M20, and M23.

Our Field teams are crucial in delivering our contracts, whether that involves maintenance, installation, cabling, or civils works. Help us build and maintain the nation's critical infrastructure, ensuring connectivity and protection 24/7.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Attending to cable breaks and repairing copper and fibre cables to keep the network operational.
  2. Completing all commissioning of equipment to the required standards, on time and within budget.
  3. Responding to equipment issues within Transmission Buildings and Roadside Cabinets in your area, day or night.
  4. Undertaking general maintenance and commissioning of equipment, including testing on fibre and copper cables.
  5. Completing all necessary documentation promptly.

Candidate Profile:

Previous experience in a similar role is essential, with familiarity in fault finding and testing within fibre or copper environments preferred.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience with motorway communications or related systems.
  • Knowledge of telecommunication networks, copper jointing, fibre splicing, and testing.
  • Strong health and safety awareness.
  • Ability to repair fibre or copper cable breaks.
  • Willingness to work overtime or respond to callouts as required.
  • Full UK driving license.
