Job Title: Operations and Compliance Manager

Location: Bishop's Stortford, CM23 1JH

Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 per year

Job type: Full Time, Permanent. Monday-Friday. 08:00 - 17:00 (1 hour lunch break)

Job Summary:

The Operations and Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operational functions while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. This dual-role position requires a proactive leader who can manage a small team, drive operational efficiency and promote a safety-first culture across all levels of the organisation.

Key Area's of Responsibility:

Operational Management;

1. Provide day-to-day operational management to the Ops Support Team, ensuring all tasks are completed promptly and to a high standard, including covering of tasks during periods of absence or leave.
2. Liaise with management teams across our sites, Yard, and Office as required, offering support and coordination where needed.
3. Creation, maintenance and implementation of Ops Support processes.

HR & Team Development;

1. Coordinate performance reviews and support the training and development of the Ops Support team.
2. Manage general office HR tasks, overseeing the coordination of training, management of holiday and absence records, onboarding new starters, and maintaining essential documentation (e.g. driving licence checks, right to work verification).

Process & Compliance;

1. Carry out internal audits and spot checks to assess the effectiveness of existing procedures and controls, ensuring consistency and documenting key processes.
2. Support the business in maintaining accreditations, certifications, and memberships, including preparation for and participation in both internal and external audits.
3. Assist with compliance investigations, identifying root causes and implementing preventative measures, and supporting customer queries and requests relating to processes.
4. Provide support to the SHEQ team including contributing to the development and review of risk assessments, procedures, and training materials.
5. Assist with the investigation, management, and resolution of insurance claims on behalf of the business.

What we're looking for:

1. Minimum of 2 years actively working in a leadership style role
2. Minimum of 2 years' experience in a role with operational and/or health and safety responsibilities
3. Experience within the construction industry
4. Familiarity with ISO Standards: 9001, 45001, 14001
