A leading fire service is seeking a part-time Operational Training Technician to support training courses in Maidstone and Ashford. The technician will ensure all training resources are available and in good condition. Qualifications

  • Experience in a Firefighter role is required.
  • Knowledge of testing and maintenance of appliances and equipment is necessary.
  • A full UK driving license with LGV and Category D1 qualifications is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Support training courses by ensuring equipment availability and readiness.
  • Transport resources & equipment between venues as required.
  • Maintain records of training equipment and arrange repairs as needed.

Operational Training Technician (Part Time) – Kent Fire and Rescue Service

Location: Based at Maidstone and Ashford Training Centres, Kent – with travel countywide
Hours: Part Time – 18.5 Hours per week
Pension: Automatic membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme – career average pension scheme with 17.5% employer contribution
Holidays: In addition to bank/ public holidays you will receive 14 days holiday
Base salary: Grade 3 – £12,236 – £13,467 per annum depending on experience

Being the Operational Training Technician
As part of our tight-knit Operational Training team, you’ll play a key role in making sure training courses run smoothly — keeping facilities and equipment in top shape and ready to go. From prepping resources to supporting every aspect of operational, your work will help shape the next generation of firefighters— helping deliver high-quality learning experiences every time.

What you’ll do
• Support a diverse catalogue of Training courses, ensuring all equipment is available and tested in good time for course commencement, including firewood, LPG, nitrogen gas, smoke machine fluid and cars for RTC training.
• Transport resources & equipment between venues as required.
• Maintain records of training equipment, including reporting defects and arranging for repairs/replacement to avoid equipment being off the run.
• Work with the Operational Training Resourcing Manager in relation to resource allocation and prioritisation of tasks.

What you’ll bring
• Experience of a Firefighter role – Wholetime or On-Call
• Knowledge and understanding of testing and maintenance of appliances and equipment
• Knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace – IOSH Working Safely.
• Ability to manage personal time and to work to deadlines.
• A full UK driving licence with LGV Driving qualification Category C and Minibus Driving Qualification Category D1.
