Severn Trent's investment of £40 million in transforming the Strongford wastewater treatment plant, Barlaston in Stoke-On-Trent into a world first Net Zero Hub (NZH), including £10 million from the Ofwat Innovation Fund, marks a significant step towards their goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.
This initiative not only demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability but also sets a benchmark in environmental best practice. The integration of advanced greenhouse gas (GHG) monitoring and technological innovation at the NZH will influence the industry widely, promoting a shift towards more sustainable practice.
Our Waste Water Recycling team have a great opportunity for you to join as our new Shift operationalTechnician located at the Net Zero Hub, Strongford sewage treatment works. The role will be to safely operate and maintain a diverse range of equipment and it’s not just about operating a sewerage plant and equipment, you’ll protect and enhance our regions environment, whilst providing an essential service to the community.
With support and training you’ll become part of a team of experts who are at the front line of enhancing our regions rivers. Day to day you’ll be responsible for making sure our treatment processes are working optimally to deliver this important work. But don’t worry there will be plenty of people on hand to support and come up with solutions to help you succeed. We’ll also welcome your ideas and a new mindset to continually improve what we do on a day-to-day basis.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a shift pattern. Will be 7 day pattern of Mornings (6am-2pm), Afternoons (2-10pm), Nights (10pm-6am) and Days, with generous time off between patterns.
Any additional technical training required will also be covered.
Some of your other key accountabilities will include:
Having experience in Wastewater Treatment or Sludge Treatment process knowledge would be advantageous. The successful candidate will be required to achieve the qualification Level 2 – Waste Water Process Operator as part of their which will be delivered by our Academy. A full UK driving licence would be essential.
