Operational Tax Manager
We are supporting a leading Investment Manager as they look to make an Operational Tax hire. This is a newly created role and an opportunity to very much shape a function.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and daily management of the operational tax team based in Cape Town, including setting priorities, overseeing performance, and mentoring the team lead.
- Drive the continuous development and skill enhancement of team members through structured training and coaching initiatives.
- Ensure the accurate and timely execution of core operational tax processes, including FATCA, CRS, US Chapter 3 withholding, and other global transparency regimes.
- Collaborate with the Head of Operational Tax to shape and implement a scalable, efficient tax operations function that supports the firm’s broader strategic goals.
- Monitor and uphold service level agreements (SLAs), internal controls, and process standards across the operational tax team.
- Serve as the senior point of contact for resolving complex technical or procedural issues within the Cape Town team.
- Work closely with the tax transformation team to support the rollout of technology-driven solutions, such as workflow platforms, automated tax form tools, and enhanced reporting systems.
- Manage relationships with external advisors and service providers to ensure compliance with all relevant tax obligations and deadlines.
- Oversee the upkeep and accuracy of operational tax documentation and record-keeping systems
Requirements:
- In-depth knowledge of international tax transparency frameworks, including FATCA, CRS (Common Reporting Standard), and U.S. Chapter 3 withholding requirements, with hands-on experience gained in asset management, private equity, or broader financial services.
- Familiarity with the operational and compliance aspects of global tax disclosure regimes, particularly AEOI and U.S. withholding tax regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in leading or coordinating geographically dispersed teams or offshore operational functions is highly advantageous.
