Job description

Please apply by: 12:00, midday on 28th October 2025

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service is seeking a motivated and practical individual to join our Fleet & Engineering Department as an Operational Equipment and Ladder Technician. This vital role involves the inspection, servicing, repair, and testing of a wide range of specialist operational equipment, including rescue ladders, hose gear, and small tools. The successful candidate will also contribute to vehicle fit outs, maintain asset records, and operate forklift and LGV vehicles for equipment collection and delivery across the Service area. The role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles, good computer literacy, and a willingness to train in specialist equipment maintenance and health & safety procedures.

We are looking for someone who can work independently and as part of a dynamic team, with a flexible approach to meet operational demands — including during spate conditions. A full Category B driving licence is essential, and a willingness to train towards Forklift and LGV Category C licences is desirable. In return, you’ll be part of a professional and supportive team, committed to upholding the Service’s core values of respect, dedication, and resilience. If you are technically skilled, detail-oriented, and eager to support front-line emergency services, we would welcome your application.
