Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater.Do you have experience working in a Large Engineering Organisation, with knowledge and experience in Maintenance Practices? Are you looking to bring your knowledge to an ever-evolving project, through to an operational power station? If so, come and join EDF as an Operational Development Engineer!The OpportunityAs an Operational Development Engineer, you’ll support the Maintenance Leads in delivering the Comm-Ops Maintenance programme, ensuring the plant is prepared for its operational life and applying your technical expertise to support the wider organisation. You’ll oversee and govern contractor activities, ensuring assets meet their operational safety and performance requirements, whilst helping to shape the next generation of nuclear power stations in the UK through the development and implementation of robust maintenance arrangements.You’ll also provide technical oversight during the construction of Hinkley Point C, building knowledge of nuclear and conventional systems in readiness for the handover of equipment from commissioning. Because success is personal.What you’ll be doingYou’ll provide engineering oversight and technical support to assets before and after handover from commissioning, ensuring they’re ready for safe and reliable operation. You’ll manage and oversee pre-operational maintenance routines, offering technical advice to the maintenance technician team as they carry out their work. You’ll also chair meetings, review documentation, and assess contractor compliance with care and maintenance arrangements.You’ll support troubleshooting activities when plant issues arise, applying your technical expertise to develop robust corrective actions and prevent recurrence. You’ll contribute to the development of standards, procedures, and arrangements to enable world-class plant performance and safe operations. In addition, you’ll research operating experience from the wider nuclear industry and promote its application to the HPC project. You’ll work flexibly within your area of competence, making the most effective use of your time and skills, while also undertaking training and development to meet the evolving needs of the business.Who you areYou will have engineering expertise to support the safe and reliable operation of a world-class nuclear power station. You’ll bring a strong technical background with an HNC, degree, or equivalent in an appropriate engineering discipline, and ideally time-served apprenticeship or previous technician experience. Experience in developing and reviewing technical documentation will be key, alongside a solid understanding of quality standards and requirements within the UK nuclear regulatory framework or similarly regulated environments.You’ll demonstrate a proactive and analytical mindset, with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage competing priorities effectively. Strong communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to collaborate with teams and contractors, while your commercial awareness and business acumen will support sound decision-making. Knowledge of maintenance practices in large engineering organisations, particularly across mechanical or electrical disciplines, and previous experience using Asset Management tools will be highly advantageous.If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!
