An operational cyber researcher plans and conducts research into systems and technologies, focusing on discovering and exploiting weaknesses. The role involves providing technical guidance, supporting bids and proposals, and engaging in activities such as:

Key skills include systematic thinking, understanding computer systems, technical writing, problem solving, scripting (Python), and prototype development (C#).
Additional skills in network traffic analysis, vulnerability analysis, OSINT, technical leadership, and knowledge of network security, operating systems, protocols, and data formats are advantageous.
Tools used include scripting languages, Wireshark, debuggers, decompilers, and simulation tools.
