Fixed term 12 months Maternity Cover - 37.5 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our service at the Hillingdon & Mount Vernon Hospital NHS Trust for an enthusiastic, flexible, and motivated ODP/Anaesthetic Nurse to join our friendly, dynamic, and hardworking theatre team.

The Hillingdon Hospital & Mount Vernon NHS Trust is a busy district general hospital situated near London's Heathrow Airport. A diagnostic and treatment centre at Mount Vernon Hospital will provide day care and elective surgery for the Hillingdon area. This Treatment Centre offers excellent learning and development opportunities for staff.

The work is interesting and varied, with a fast pace, but we can offer a friendly and supportive environment with a strong commitment to continuing professional development, along with all the benefits of working for a Foundation Trust.

Our theatre suite at the Hillingdon & Mount Vernon sites comprises 13 theatres and 2 recovery units. Specialities include robotics, orthopaedics/trauma, gynaecology, urology, dental, pain, ophthalmic, and general surgery. This department provides 24-hour theatre services, including obstetrics.

A commitment to participate in shifts, on-calls, nights, and weekends is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide responsible, high-quality patient care, maintaining standards in accordance with agreed policies.
  2. Assist skilled team members in the operating department and other areas of the Trust as required.
  3. Maintain standards to achieve and sustain a quality service.
  4. Participate in training programmes for operating department practitioners and act as a facilitator/mentor for pre-registration and post-registration nursing students in Theatre.

Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Assist anaesthetists and surgeons with all aspects of clinical work, including coverage at various sites and departments such as obstetrics, CT/MRI scan rooms, ECT suite, A&E Resus, CCU, and others.
  2. Work directly with surgeons and anaesthetists in preparing and delivering all medical/surgical procedures in theatres and anaesthetic rooms.
  3. Ensure a safe environment for patient treatment within theatres and anaesthetic rooms.
