Job description

Overall Objectives

  1. To work as a member of the operating theatre team, participating in patient care alongside registered staff.
  2. To provide a safe and clean environment for patients during the peri-operative episode, maintaining agreed standards.
  3. To uphold Trust Values.
  4. Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
  5. Transport conscious/unconscious patients safely between all acute care areas, including the hospital, theatre, anaesthetic room, and recovery room.
  6. Ensure all areas within the Operating Department are clean and tidy, with adequate stock levels maintained.
  7. Undertake cleaning and tidying of furniture and equipment used in theatre and associated rooms, reporting items needing repair.
  8. Clean all theatres, anaesthetic rooms, floors, walls, sluice areas, and other required areas daily or as needed.
  9. Remove clinical waste, linen, and sharps within theatres for collection or disposal.
  10. Clean and check theatre patient trolleys after use, ensuring they are ready for use with filled oxygen cylinders and masks, reporting any issues.
  11. Keep changing rooms tidy, change linen bags as needed, and replenish scrub suites.
  12. Participate in the "on call" rota as required by the theatre team.
  13. Maintain a stock of medical gas cylinders, respond to alarms, and change cylinders as needed, ensuring the store room is tidy.
