Job summary

G-Research, located in Greater London, is looking for a Deputy Head of Open-Source Development. This senior role involves leading engagement between the open-source program office and internal stakeholders, aligning contributions with business needs, and driving internal adoption of initiatives.

The successful candidate will possess a strong engineering background in areas like distributed systems and machine learning, along with exceptional communication skills to foster relationships across diverse teams.

Qualifications

  • Strong engineering background across distributed systems, data platforms, machine learning, HPC infrastructure, or developer tooling.
  • Experience in reviewing or writing production-quality code in Python, C++, Java, Rust or Go.
  • Ability to navigate complex codebases and understand architectural trade-offs.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage and influence stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship-building skills to work effectively across technical and non-technical groups.
  • Proven ability to operate in complex environments and manage competing priorities.
  • Pragmatic and resilient approach with a passion for open source.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engagement between OSPO and internal stakeholders, ensuring alignment between contributions and business priorities.
  • Partner with Head of Open-Source Development to shape strategy and evaluate opportunities.
  • Build relationships across engineering, research, and leadership teams.
  • Identify technical needs and translate them into actionable initiatives.
  • Act as primary contact for requests, managing requirements and expectations.
  • Evaluate technologies and research tooling for adoption opportunities.
  • Drive internal adoption of contributions and gather feedback.
  • Promote awareness of OSPO’s capabilities across the firm.
  • Support governance, prioritization, and portfolio management.
  • Maintain documentation, roadmaps, and reporting on programme impact.
