The Role
- Responsible for safe watchkeeping, control, and maintenance of engine room mechanical equipment and propulsion equipment.
- Maintain routine documentation as required by the company.
- Act as MS (Maintenance Supervisor) or BOX (Ballast Control Operator) as defined in IMO resolution A. 1079 (28), when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Report to 2nd Engineer DP.
- Be familiar with and maintain awareness of relevant company requirements, latest industry codes, standards, statutory rules, and regulations.
- Ensure all workspace activities are carried out in a manner consistent with company policies and the Vessel Management Manual.
- Ensure safe and efficient operation of engine room machinery during own duty watch.
- Ensure DP engine room operations are conducted according to company procedures, if required.
- Implement the Asset Management Operative System (AMOS) to survey, test, and maintain ship machinery and equipment, including emergency and safety systems.
- Carry out analysis tasks for cooling water, sanitary water, diesel oil, and other oils; participate in bunkering/offloading and refueling operations.
- Advise 2nd Engineer DP for efficient and timely ordering of spares.
- Perform duties within the vessel emergency team as per the Emergency Preparedness Manual.
- Report unsafe acts, conditions, near misses, and incidents to 2nd Engineer DP; inform the Chief Engineer DP/2nd Engineer DP of any incident.
- Ensure no major actions are undertaken without informing the Chief Engineer DP/2nd Engineer DP.
- Maintain vessel compliance with class and statutory legislation, and monitor environmental pollution per MARPOL.
- Record engine machinery operations in the engine logbook during own duty watch.
- Take over the watch following company procedures.
- Perform daily calculations of R.O.B.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in watchkeeping in the engine room.
- Adherence to safe working practices.
- STCW required certificates, National CoC Reg. III/1, and endorsement.
- Completion of all required training and certifications as per the Training Matrix.
- Dynamic Positioning Training as per company procedures.
- MOA stability course (where applicable).
- Minimum two (2) years' offshore experience for Officer in Charge of Engineering Watch. For Italian seafarers, the equivalent designations are "Secondo Ufficiale di Macchina" (Senior Officer) and "Terzo Ufficiale di Macchina" (Junior Officer).
