We are seeking an on-site Senior Linux Engineer to provide Linux support for a key public sector client. This high-impact role involves support, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.

Note: Successful applicants must be eligible for high-level UK Security clearance.

Location: Edinburgh

The candidate will join a skilled support team, requiring flexibility and a pragmatic approach to IT support. The role demands a second/third line support background, excellent customer service, and communication skills. A keen interest in innovation and automation is essential.

Education and Experience:

• Proven support experience in UNIX/Linux environments
• Strong technical background supporting large-scale Unix/Linux servers
• Ability to mentor staff and troubleshoot complex environments
• Experience supporting multiple projects simultaneously
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
• Linux and Solaris System Administration
• UNIX/Linux troubleshooting expertise
• Red Hat Linux (versions 5.x-8.x)
• Solaris (versions 10.x-11.x)
• Knowledge of SRDF & STAR storage replication
• Clustering (Veritas VCS, RedHat Resilient Storage GFS2)
• Storage and Filesystems (VXFS, ZFS, EXT3, EXT4, XFS, UFS, SVM)
• Volume Managers (VXVM, LVM)
• Support for Cyberark and SCCM
• UNIX/Linux auditing and logging systems
• Networking and LDAP configuration
• UNIX/Linux software patching

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience. Professional certifications are a plus. Typically 5-10 years of relevant experience.

Desirable Skills:

• Virtualization (VMware, Solaris Zones and Containers)
• EMC SAN Storage
• Scripting (Shell, Python, Perl, Ansible YAML)
• Configuration management (Ansible, CFEngine)
• Familiarity with AIX (version 7)
