Job summary

Polaris Education is seeking a dedicated One-to-One Teaching Assistant for Stannard School in Dunstable. This full-time fixed-term (1 year) role supports a pupil with tailored, high-impact mentorship and learning interventions within a safe school environment. Strong GCSEs and SEMH experience are preferred.

The position offers term-time only work with a salary of £21,257.48 to £23,232.69 and benefits including a company pension and life assurance. DBS cost is covered by Polaris Education.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at grade C or equivalent.
• Strong IT skills and flexibility with a growth mindset.
• Experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar role.
• Experience of working with SEMH pupils.
• Willingness to take additional responsibilities (e.g., Forest School, lunchtimes).

Responsibilities

• Mentor and support one pupil or a small group of up to six.
• Monitor EHCP targets and support meeting/evaluation.
• Support the classroom teacher during lessons.
• Report on pupils' progress and concerns.
• Supervise pupils outside lessons, including trips.
• Assist with lesson planning and preparation.
• Set work and undertake marking.
• Build positive relationships and drive learning outcomes.

Role Responsibilities

• Mentor and support one pupil or a small group of no more than six pupils
• Maintain an awareness of the EHCPs for pupils in your care and support the meeting and evaluation of targets
• Support the classroom teacher during lessons
• Report on pupils' progress and concerns, liaising with other school staff to ensure pupils' needs are met
• Supervise pupils during times outside lessons, including extra-curricular activities and school trips
• Assist with lesson planning and classroom preparation
• Set work where appropriate and undertake marking
• Build positive relationships with your pupils and drive interaction and positive learning outcomes

Requirements

• Have a strong basic education, ideally to A Level, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
• Be flexible and demonstrate a growth mindset
• Previous experience in a similar role, such as a Teaching Assistant
• Previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
• Be experienced and confident in taking additional responsibility within an area of the school, such as food hygiene, Forest School, lunchtimes or school yoga
• Experience of behaviour-management strategies and techniques
• A commitment to professional development and willingness to learn
