Job summary

Polaris Education in Dunstable is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 5-18. You will mentor a pupil or small groups, assist with EHCP targets, and help the classroom teacher during lessons.

The role offers a supportive environment within Polaris Community, with strong Ofsted ratings and opportunities for professional development. DBS checks will be required, and you will contribute to a safe, inclusive school culture.

Qualifications

• A minimum GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics.
• Sound IT skills.
• Experience in a similar role, e.g., Teaching Assistant.
• Experience with SEMH pupils in an educational setting.
• Willingness to take additional responsibilities (e.g., Forest School, lunchtimes or school yoga).
• Experience of behaviour-management strategies.
• Commitment to professional development and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and support one pupil or a small group of no more than six pupils.
• Maintain awareness of EHCPs for pupils in your care and support meeting and evaluation of targets.
• Support the classroom teacher during lessons.
• Report on pupils' progress and concerns, liaising with other staff to meet needs.
• Supervise pupils during times outside lessons, including extra-curricular activities and trips.
• Assist with lesson planning and classroom preparation.
• Set work where appropriate and undertake marking.
• Build positive relationships with pupils and drive interaction and learning outcomes.

Role Responsibilities

Requirements

• Have a strong basic education, ideally to A Level, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills
• Be flexible and demonstrate a growth mindset
• Previous experience in a similar role, such as a Teaching Assistant
• Previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
• Be experienced and confident in taking additional responsibility within an area of the school, such as food hygiene, Forest School, lunchtimes or school yoga
• Experience of behaviour-management strategies and techniques
• A commitment to professional development and willingness to learn
