Job summary

Your Life Your Way is recruiting a care support assistant to work as a personal assistant to a university student with spinal muscular atrophy. The role focuses on personal care, mobility support, clinical tasks, and facilitating attendance at lectures and social activities.

No specific experience is required, but Enhanced DBS and references are required. You will work a rolling day and evening rota in a one-to-one support arrangement, with training provided and opportunities to develop skills

Qualifications

• Good communication and a calm, friendly approach.
• Caring, empathetic nature with a desire to support others.
• Comfortable providing personal care.
• Basic IT and record-keeping skills.
• Respect independence and dignity of the person.
• Able to adapt when plans change.

Responsibilities

• Personal care including washing, dressing, toileting and daily routines.
• Support with mobility and transfers, repositioning to prevent pressure sores.
• Secretion management: suction, chest physiotherapy, cough assist and nebuliser administration.
• Overnight ventilation and support when unwell.
• Monitor oxygen saturations, heart rate and temperature.
• Medication administration.
• Support with eating and meal preparation, and light household tasks.
• Help getting to university, social activities, appointments and events.
• Accompanying him on outings and supporting activities he enjoys.
• Setting up equipment and preparing for the day ahead.
• Respecting choices, preferences and independence.
