Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, co-ordinating a team to deliver a clean and fully stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.

Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a good understanding of your store’s performance and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement through a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For
  1. Coordinating the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
  2. Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, ensuring decisions are right for customers, colleagues, and safety
  3. Being the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for day-to-day operational queries
  4. Supporting the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events, creating an inclusive atmosphere
  5. Ensuring the store is always clean, tidy, and well presented
  6. Prioritising the replenishment of products that matter to customers
  7. Making sure point of sale and shelf edge labels are accurate
  8. Addressing overcharges immediately and preventing reoccurrence
  9. Proactively managing queues to deliver a great shopping experience
  10. Coordinating colleagues to meet daily priorities and manage breaks around trade patterns
  11. Being knowledgeable about the store and leading practical improvements
  12. Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same
  13. Communicating effectively with the team and keeping them informed
  14. Seeking ways to simplify operations and sharing ideas with the Store Manager
  15. Always putting the customer first and adapting service to meet their needs
  16. Resolving customer queries promptly with a positive attitude
  17. Recognising colleagues who deliver great service
  18. Identifying and removing obstacles to excellent service
  19. Resolving colleague queries or escalating as needed
  20. Ensuring appropriate staffing, covering absences proactively
  21. Being a Keyholder, attending alarm call outs to ensure store safety
  22. Monitoring and acting on internal communications promptly
  23. Feeding back store issues to the Store Manager
  24. Balancing time between service and replenishment areas
  25. Supporting the Store Manager with managing absence and conducting return-to-work interviews
  26. Building relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, escalating issues and seeking coaching opportunities
  27. If the store has a Post Office Local: Your duties include managing daily operations of the Post Office, requiring passing a financial and criminal background check. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the offer.
