Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, co-ordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations.

Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store's performance and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement through a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For
  • Coordinating the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
  • Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, ensuring decisions are right for customers, colleagues, and safety
  • Being the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for operational queries
  • Supporting the Store Manager with seasonal, community, and charity events, fostering an inclusive atmosphere
  • Ensuring the store is always clean, tidy, and well presented
  • Prioritising the replenishment of products important to customers
  • Ensuring point of sale and shelf edge labels reflect good standards
  • Taking immediate action for overcharges and preventing reoccurrences
  • Managing queues proactively to enhance the shopping experience
  • Coordinating colleagues to meet daily priorities and manage breaks around trade patterns
  • Being knowledgeable about the store and leading practical improvements
  • Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same
  • Delivering effective communication to the team
  • Seeking ways to simplify operations and sharing ideas with the Store Manager
  • Always putting the customer first and adapting service to meet their needs
  • Resolving customer queries promptly and leaving them satisfied
  • Recognising colleagues who deliver great service
  • Identifying and removing obstacles to excellent service
  • Resolving colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalating as needed
  • Ensuring appropriate staffing, reacting to short-term absences by finding cover
  • Being a recognised Keyholder, attending alarm call outs to ensure safety and security
  • Monitoring and acting on internal communications promptly
  • Coordinating colleagues to meet customer and store needs, reporting issues to the Store Manager
  • Balancing time between service and replenishment areas
  • Supporting the Store Manager in managing staff absence and conducting return-to-work interviews
  • Building relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, escalating issues and seeking coaching opportunities
  • If the store has a Post Office Local, your duties will include its daily operations. You will need to pass a Post Office Financial and criminal conviction background check. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
