Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, co-ordinating a team to deliver a clean and fully stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.

Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will be constantly seeking ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store’s performance and be the specialist in implementing practical improvements through a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For
  1. Coordinate the team to deliver a seamless shopping experience for the community.
  2. Open and close the store, complete duty cover, and ensure decisions prioritize customer satisfaction, colleague safety, and store security.
  3. Act as the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for daily operational issues.
  4. Support the Store Manager in organizing seasonal, community, and charity events to foster an inclusive atmosphere.
  5. Ensure the store is clean, tidy, and well-presented at all times.
  6. Prioritize replenishing products that are important to our customers.
  7. Ensure point of sale and shelf labels are accurate and reflect quality standards.
  8. Address overcharges immediately and prevent reoccurrences.
  9. Manage queues proactively to enhance the shopping experience.
  10. Coordinate colleagues to meet daily priorities, including scheduling breaks around trade patterns.
  11. Maintain knowledge about store operations and lead practical actions for improvement.
  12. Follow and promote health and safety routines among colleagues.
  13. Communicate effectively with the team, keeping them informed.
  14. Identify opportunities to simplify operations and share ideas with the Store Manager.
  15. Always prioritize the customer and tailor service to meet their needs.
  16. Resolve customer queries promptly, leaving them satisfied.
  17. Recognize and celebrate colleagues providing excellent service.
  18. Identify and help remove obstacles to delivering great service.
  19. Handle colleague queries in the Store Manager’s absence or escalate as needed.
  20. Ensure proper staffing, react to short-term absences, and find cover for shifts.
  21. As a Keyholder, attend alarm call-outs to ensure store safety and security.
  22. Monitor and act on internal communications, ensuring messages are followed up and colleagues are informed.
  23. Coordinate colleagues to meet customer needs and store operations, reporting issues to the Store Manager.
  24. Balance your time between service and replenishment areas.
  25. Support the Store Manager in managing staff absence and conducting return-to-work interviews.
  26. Build relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, escalating issues timely and seeking coaching opportunities.
  27. If the store has a Post Office Local, duties include managing daily operations of the Post Office, requiring a background check for financial and criminal records. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
