Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, co-ordinating a team to deliver a clean and fully stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.

Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store’s performance and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement by taking a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For

• Coordinating the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
• Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, ensuring decisions are right for customers, colleagues, and safety
• Serving as the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for operational queries
• Supporting the Store Manager in co-ordinating seasonal, community, and charity events to create an inclusive atmosphere
• Maintaining store cleanliness, tidiness, and presentation
• Prioritising product replenishment based on customer needs
• Ensuring point of sale and shelf labels reflect standards
• Addressing overcharges immediately and preventing reoccurrence
• Managing queues proactively to enhance customer shopping experience
• Scheduling colleagues to meet daily priorities and breaks around trade patterns
• Being knowledgeable about the store and leading practical improvements
• Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same
• Communicating effectively with the team to keep them informed
• Sharing ideas to simplify operations with the Store Manager
• Putting the customer first in all actions
• Resolving customer queries promptly and courteously
• Adapting service to meet individual customer needs
• Recognising colleagues providing excellent service
• Identifying and removing obstacles to delivering great service
• Resolving colleague queries or escalating as appropriate
• Ensuring appropriate staffing, covering shifts due to absences or sickness
• Being a Keyholder and attending alarm call outs to ensure safety and security
• Monitoring and acting on internal communications
• Balancing service and replenishment duties
• Supporting Store Manager in managing colleague absence and conducting return-to-work interviews
• Building relationships with Area Manager & People Partner, escalating issues and seeking coaching opportunities
• If the store has a Post Office Local: Your duties include managing daily operations of the post office, which requires passing a background check for financial and criminal records. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
