About the role

A busy store in the heart of the community has an exciting opportunity for a Shift Leader.

What is in it for you

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, coordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations.

Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a great understanding of store performance and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement by taking a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For

Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, making decisions that benefit customers, colleagues, and safety
Act as the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for day-to-day operational queries
Support the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events to create an inclusive atmosphere
Ensure the store is always clean, tidy, and well-presented
Prioritize replenishment of products important to customers
Ensure point of sale and shelf labels reflect quality standards
Address overcharges immediately and prevent reoccurrence
Manage queues proactively to ensure a great shopping experience
Coordinate colleagues to meet daily priorities and manage breaks around trade patterns
Be knowledgeable about the store and coordinate actions for improvements
Follow health and safety routines and ensure colleagues do the same
Communicate effectively with the team and keep them informed
Share ideas to simplify operations with the Store Manager
Always put the customer first and adapt service to meet their needs
Resolve customer queries promptly, leaving them satisfied
Recognize and celebrate colleagues providing excellent service
Identify obstacles to great service and help remove them
Resolve colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalate appropriately
Ensure appropriate staffing, covering shifts for absences or sickness
Act as a Keyholder, attending alarm call-outs to ensure safety and security
Monitor and act on internal communications promptly
Coordinate colleagues to meet customer and store needs, reporting issues to the Store Manager
Balance time between service and replenishment areas
Support the Store Manager in managing absence, conducting return-to-work interviews, and reporting triggers
Build relationships with Area Manager & People Partner, escalating issues and seeking coaching opportunities

If the store has a Post Office Local, your duties will include managing daily operations of the Post Office, which requires passing a background check; failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
