Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by managing duty shifts, coordinating a team to ensure a clean, well-stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.

Since the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will continually seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store’s performance and be the specialist in implementing practical improvements through a hands-on approach.

With your leadership, your store will always be a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For
  1. Coordinating the team to provide the easiest shopping trip in the community.
  2. Opening and closing the store, completing duty cover, and making decisions that benefit customers, colleagues, and safety.
  3. Acting as the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for daily operational queries.
  4. Supporting the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events to create an inclusive atmosphere.
  5. Ensuring the store is clean, tidy, and well-presented.
  6. Prioritizing the replenishment of products important to customers.
  7. Ensuring point of sale and shelf labels reflect the desired standards.
  8. Addressing overcharges immediately and preventing reoccurrences.
  9. Managing queues proactively to deliver a great shopping experience.
  10. Coordinating colleagues' tasks, ensuring they meet daily priorities and take breaks appropriately.
  11. Being knowledgeable about the store and coordinating efforts to make improvements.
  12. Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same.
  13. Communicating effectively with the team and keeping them informed.
  14. Seeking ways to simplify operations and sharing ideas with the Store Manager.
  15. Always prioritizing the customer and tailoring service to meet their needs.
  16. Resolving customer queries promptly and leaving them satisfied.
  17. Adjusting service delivery to meet individual customer needs.
  18. Recognizing colleagues who provide excellent service.
  19. Identifying and removing obstacles to delivering great service.
  20. Resolving colleagues’ queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalating as needed.
  21. Ensuring appropriate staffing levels, covering shifts as necessary.
  22. Being a Keyholder responsible for store security, including attending alarm call-outs.
  23. Monitoring and acting on internal communications promptly.
  24. Feeding back operational issues to the Store Manager and managing customer and operational needs during shifts.
  25. Balancing time between service and replenishment areas.
  26. Supporting the Store Manager in managing staff absence and conducting return-to-work interviews.
  27. Building relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, seeking support and coaching as needed.
  28. If the store has a Post Office Local, your duties will include managing daily operations of the Post Office, which requires passing a financial and criminal conviction background check. Failure to pass these checks will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
