Job description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, co-ordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations.

As the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store's performance and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement by taking a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For

  • Coordinating the team to deliver a seamless shopping experience.
  • Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, ensuring decisions are right for customers, colleagues, and safety.
  • Being the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for operational queries.
  • Supporting the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events.
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy, and well-presented store environment.
  • Prioritising replenishment of products important to customers.
  • Ensuring point of sale and shelf edge labels are accurate.
  • Addressing overcharges immediately and preventing reoccurrences.
  • Managing queues proactively to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Coordinating colleagues' tasks and breaks around trade patterns.
  • Being knowledgeable about store operations and driving improvements.
  • Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same.
  • Communicating effectively with the team.
  • Looking for ways to simplify operations and sharing ideas with the Store Manager.
  • Putting the customer first and resolving queries promptly with a positive attitude.
  • Adjusting service to meet individual customer needs.
  • Recognising colleagues who deliver great service.
  • Identifying and removing obstacles to excellent service.
  • Resolving colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalating as needed.
  • Ensuring appropriate staffing, reacting to short-term absences by finding cover.
  • Being a recognised Keyholder and attending alarm call-outs to ensure safety and security.
  • Monitoring and acting on internal communications promptly.
  • Balancing service and replenishment tasks effectively.
  • Supporting the Store Manager with managing absences and conducting return-to-work interviews.
  • Building relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, escalating issues, seeking advice, and coaching opportunities.
  • If the store has a Post Office Local, duties include managing daily operations of the Post Office, which requires passing a background check. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the job offer.

As a Shift Leader, you will champion One Stop’s Core Purpose and Values:

Core Purpose: Serving our customers, communities, and planet better every day.

Values:

  • Our customers are at the heart of everything we do
  • We treat each other how we like to be treated
