Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, coordinating a team to deliver a clean and fully stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.

As the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of your store’s performance and be the specialist in implementing practical improvements by taking a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For

  • Coordinating the team to deliver a seamless shopping experience in the community.
  • Opening and closing the store, completing duty cover, and making decisions that prioritize customers, colleagues, and safety.
  • Serving as the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for daily operational queries.
  • Supporting the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events to foster an inclusive atmosphere.
  • Ensuring the store is clean, tidy, and well-presented.
  • Prioritizing the replenishment of products important to our customers.
  • Ensuring point of sale and shelf labels are accurate and reflect quality standards.
  • Addressing overcharges immediately and preventing recurrence.
  • Managing queues proactively to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Coordinating colleagues to meet daily priorities and manage breaks around trade patterns.
  • Having knowledge about store operations and leading efforts to implement improvements.
  • Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same.
  • Communicating effectively with the team to keep everyone informed.
  • Seeking ways to simplify operations and sharing ideas with the Store Manager.
  • Always prioritizing the customer and personalizing service to meet their needs.
  • Resolving customer queries promptly and professionally, leaving them satisfied.
  • Recognizing colleagues who deliver excellent service.
  • Identifying and removing obstacles to great service delivery.
  • Resolving colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalating as needed.
  • Ensuring appropriate staffing, covering shifts due to short-term absences or sickness.
  • Being a Keyholder responsible for store security and attending alarm call outs when necessary.
  • Monitoring and acting on internal communications promptly.
  • Coordinating colleagues to meet customer and operational needs, providing feedback to the Store Manager on any issues.
  • Balancing time between service and replenishment areas.
  • Supporting the Store Manager in managing staff absence, conducting return-to-work interviews, and reporting absence triggers according to policy.
  • Building relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, escalating issues, seeking advice, and engaging in coaching opportunities.
  • If this store has a Post Office Local, duties include managing daily operations of the post office, which requires passing a financial and criminal background check. Failure to pass these checks will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
