Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, coordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations.

As the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will constantly look for ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will have a good understanding of your store’s performance and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement by taking a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For

  • Coordinating the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
  • Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, ensuring decisions are right for customers, colleagues, and safety
  • Being the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for operational queries
  • Supporting the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community, and charity events, creating an inclusive atmosphere
  • Maintaining store cleanliness, tidiness, and presentation
  • Prioritising replenishment of products important to customers
  • Ensuring point of sale and shelf labels reflect the correct standards
  • Taking immediate action for overcharges and preventing reoccurrences
  • Managing queues proactively to enhance the shopping experience
  • Coordinating colleagues to deliver daily priorities and manage breaks around trade patterns
  • Being knowledgeable about store operations and leading practical improvements
  • Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same
  • Communicating effectively with the team and keeping them informed
  • Seeking ways to simplify operations and sharing ideas with the Store Manager
  • Putting the customer first and adapting service to meet their needs
  • Resolving customer queries promptly with a positive attitude
  • Recognising colleagues who deliver great service
  • Identifying and removing obstacles to excellent service
  • Resolving colleague queries in the absence of the Store Manager or escalating when necessary
  • Ensuring appropriate staffing, covering shifts as needed
  • Being a Keyholder, attending alarm call-outs to ensure store safety
  • Monitoring and acting on internal communications promptly
  • Feeding back to the Store Manager about store issues during shifts
  • Balancing service and replenishment tasks
  • Supporting the Store Manager with absence management, conducting return-to-work interviews, and reporting absences
  • Building relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, escalating issues and seeking coaching opportunities
  • If the store has a Post Office Local, your duties include managing its daily operations, requiring passing a background check. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
