Job Description

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will work in a fast-paced retail environment where no day is the same.

You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, coordinating a team to ensure a clean and fully stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.

As the customer is central to everything we do, you will constantly seek ways to improve service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will understand your store’s performance and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement by taking a hands-on approach.

With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

You will be Responsible For

  • Coordinating the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
  • Opening/closing the store and completing duty cover, making decisions that benefit customers, colleagues, and safety
  • Being the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for operational queries
  • Supporting the Store Manager with seasonal, community, and charity events to create an inclusive atmosphere
  • Ensuring the store is clean, tidy, and well-presented
  • Prioritising product replenishment based on customer needs
  • Ensuring point of sale and shelf labels reflect standards
  • Addressing overcharges immediately and preventing reoccurrence
  • Managing queues proactively to enhance customer experience
  • Coordinating colleagues’ priorities and breaks around trade patterns
  • Having knowledge of the store and implementing improvements
  • Following health and safety routines and ensuring colleagues do the same
  • Communicating effectively with the team
  • Sharing ideas to simplify operations with the Store Manager
  • Putting the customer first and resolving queries with a smile
  • Adjusting service to meet individual customer needs
  • Recognising colleagues who deliver great service
  • Identifying and removing obstacles to excellent service
  • Resolving colleague queries or escalating as needed
  • Ensuring adequate staffing and managing short-term absences
  • Being a Keyholder and attending alarm call outs for store safety
  • Monitoring and acting on internal communications
  • Balancing service and replenishment tasks
  • Supporting the Store Manager in managing store absence and conducting return-to-work interviews
  • Building relationships with Area Managers and People Partners, escalating issues, seeking advice, and engaging in coaching
  • If the store has a Post Office Local, your duties will include managing its daily operations, requiring passing a background check. Failure to pass will result in withdrawal of the offer.
