The Trevor Howell Day Unit at St George's Hospital is seeking a friendly, motivated, and well-organised individual to join our team as a Chemotherapy/SACT Scheduler.

We are a busy and dynamic chemotherapy day unit providing systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) to oncology patients across the Trust. Our unit plays a critical role in delivering timely, safe, and compassionate cancer care, and we are proud to have recently achieved a PlatinumAccreditation for excellence in quality and service.

As a Chemotherapy/SACT Scheduler, you will work closely with the nursing, medical, pharmacy, and administrative teams to ensure that all treatment appointments are accurately booked, aligned with clinical plans, and communicated effectively. Your work will directly support the smooth running of the unit and contribute to high-quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

The Oncology/Haematology Unit Scheduler plays a key role in supporting the coordination of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) appointments for patients attending the chemotherapy day unit. Working under the supervision of Senior Sister, the postholder will assist in booking, amending, and maintaining accurate treatment schedules in line with clinical pathways and patient needs. The role involves close communication with the nursing team, pharmacy, administrative staff, and patients to ensure the smooth running of the day unit and timely delivery of care.

Scheduling and Administration

Book SACT appointments into the treatment schedule based on consultant plans and nursing team input, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

Update appointments following treatment changes, deferrals, or cancellations as instructed by clinical staff.

Ensure pre and post-treatment requirements such as blood tests or pre-assessment appointments, pump disconnection etc. are scheduled as per local protocols.

Team Support

Work collaboratively with nursing staff, pharmacy teams, and administration to ensure effective coordination of treatment schedules.

Support the unit in managing patient flow by maintaining an up-to-date overview of daily capacity and flagging any issues or concerns to the Senior Sister

Attend daily huddles or planning meetings to receive updates on scheduling priorities.

Patient Communication

Liaise with patients as needed to confirm or amend appointments, providing a helpful and compassionate service.

Signpost patients to appropriate clinical staff if they have treatment-related questions or concerns.
Data Entry and Records
Accurately enter appointment and treatment information into ChemoCare / iClip

Maintain confidentiality and data integrity when handling patient information in line with GDPR and Trust policies.

Service Delivery

Help ensure timely scheduling that supports the units efficiency and contributes to meeting national cancer targets

Assist with the preparation of daily schedules and patient lists for clinical teams

Take part in service improvement initiatives

Professional Conduct and Development

Complete all mandatory training and take part in relevant team meetings and development sessions.

Contribute positively to a culture of safety, teamwork, and service excellence.
